Tupper Lake school names valedictorian, salutatorian

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake Middle-High School’s valedictorian for the Class of 2018 is Andrew Trudeau, and the salutatorian is Meagan McNeilly.

The graduation ceremony will be held Friday in the high school gymnasium.

Trudeau is the son of Craig and Sylvia Trudeau of Tupper Lake.

He has been involved with the high school band and chorus, as well as the archery club, drama club, debate team, National Honor Society, and Red and Black Players.

He recently completed a program at Clarkson University called the Clarkson School, which allowed him to start college a year early while taking courses to finish his high school requirements. While at Clarkson, he was involved in the pep band and the theater club, and was accepted into the Honors Program.

Trudeau will return to Clarkson in the fall for his sophomore year, majoring in biology and pre-veterinary medicine, and will be an alumni mentor for the Clarkson School.

McNeilly is the daughter of George and Brenda Tsokanis of Tupper Lake.

She was the founder and president of the debate club as well as a member of the music department since elementary school, and she was recently inducted into the National Honor Society.

McNeilly has been awarded the Maggi Gillis Memorial for her leadership skills, positive attitude and love of the Adirondacks. She has also been awarded the Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Scholarship due to her outstanding commitment to social justice.

She plans to attend North Country Community College this fall to pursue a degree in massage therapy.
