SARANAC LAKE — It may not have been the largest gathering of Cupids in the entire world, but 125 Cupids in St. Bernard’s gym was something to behold. Bobbing blond curls topped bearded grown men, tall skinny women and kids who may have just come for the cookies.

The world record of 199 was set in Madrid, Spain, in 2009. Saranac Lake’s Kiwanis Club decided to go for the record one short month ago, with Dan Reilly and his wife Aggie Pelletieri leading the charge.

With the help of Rumble Carpentry, local Kiwanis club members and people at HomEnergy crafted a stupendous float of a giant Cupid, bringing the spirit of Valentine’s Day into the parade.

Folks in togas and curly blond wigs, sporting bows and arrows, snacked on cookies while waiting for the count. There were prizes awarded for Cupid categories, including oldest, youngest and cutest.

Starting at $19.00/week.
