SARANAC LAKE — At approximately 9:30 a.m. Thursday, a fire alarm sounded in the Physicians and Surgeons building, a separate building next to Adirondack Medical Center.

The smell of smoke was apparent and could be observed through a closed door window in an unoccupied office suite.

Per emergency protocols, the building was evacuated, and the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Saranac Lake Police Department responded, arriving on scene in short order. The cause of the smoke was investigated and subsequently attributed to a malfunctioning furnace blower in the unoccupied office suite.

By 10:25 a.m., the all-clear was announced and employees returned to their offices. At no time was there any type of fire or open flame. Adirondack Health officials said they appreciate the speed and professionalism demonstrated by our local first responders.
