Rangers help sick woman in High Peaks

State Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers helped locate a missing Connecticut State Police K9 who became loose while working near the state border last week, in addition to helping a sick hiker in the Adirondacks.

Town of Newcomb

Just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, forest rangers received a call for help from a group of hikers at Elk Lake Lodge. The group said a woman in their party had become sick during a multi-day backpacking trip in the Dix Mountain Wilderness Area.

Rather than making the long hike back to their vehicles on state Route 73 outside of Lake Placid, the group detoured to the lodge.

Forest rangers Jamison Martin and Nancy Ganswindt provided the group with a courtesy ride to their vehicles, where the woman said she would seek medical assistance on her own.

Starting at $19.00/week.
