Cranberry Lake fishing derby nears the decade mark
CRANBERRY LAKE — The ninth annual Cranberry Lake fishing derby is slated for Jan. 27, 2018, and organizers say anglers should register early to ensure a chance at the nearly $10,000 in prizes.
Sponsored by the Cranberry Lake Volunteer Fire Department, the derby will run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with anglers looking to land large pike. Hourly cash prizes will be awarded for the top three fish, while kids can get in on the action in the youth perch derby.
Up until Jan. 12, adults can register for $35. The cost goes to $40 after that, and early registrants will be entered to win a $250 gift card from Bass Pro Shops. The top five kids will earn cash, and every child 12 and under who registers will get a prize.
This year, organizers are offering another chance for angles to win cash in the new “Mystery Weight” category in which the fish closest to the mystery weight — without going over — will win up to $1,000.
“The extraordinary fishing, along with generous prizes, have made this one of the most memorable ice fishing tournaments in the Northeast,” derby chairperson Karen Soltau said in a press release. “Once again, we look forward to welcoming fishermen from all over the North Country, surrounding states and Canada. It’s always a remarkable day and lots of fun for the whole family.”
