Joy of Giving Party Dec. 9

PAUL SMITHS – To help energize and celebrate the gift of giving this holiday season, the folks at New & Improved, LLC and the members of BSA Troop 12 are throwing the 22nd annual “Joy of Giving” party.

The event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Paul Smith’s College Forestry Cabin, and is inspired by research that points the way to energizing a strong commitment to altruistic behaviors in children.

This is not your ordinary holiday children’s party.

The hope of the organizers is that young children who come to the party can be helped by their parents to have a personal commitment to the gift they give, and that they personally select and present the gift to the elves on hand.

Since our primary purpose is to use the party as a vehicle for fostering long term altruism; collecting gifts that can actually be re-given is a byproduct only.

One child actually gave (and gave up) her pacifier. The elves who arrived “in uniform” at the party via horse-drawn sleigh, knew exactly who was going to get that pacifier and told the giver all about that child. The elves will know who will receive the gift a child brings, and will tell the child a bit about them.

The party is open to the public.
