DEC offers emerald ash borer workshop for forest owners

CANTON — The state Department of Environmental Conservation will host a workshop for North Country forest owners in light of recent outbreaks of emerald ash borer insects in Franklin and St. Lawrence counties.

The DEC, Cornell Cooperative Extension and the state Department of Agriculture and Markets will offer the workshop, which is free, at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm, 2043 B State Highway 68, Canton.

Land owners can also have a DEC forester come to their property, free of charge, to help develop a forest stewardship plan. Forest stewardship plans address the landowner’s objectives and discuss how the arrival or proximity of emerald ash borer could impact the owner’s forest resources.

For more information contact DEC forester Steve Sherwood at 315-274-3335 or information.R6@dec.ny.gov.
