Road to Retirement: ‘Splendors of New Zealand’ today

SARANAC LAKE – As part of the Saranac Village at Will Rogers’ Road to Retirement Series, at 2 p.m. today at Saranac Village at Will Rogers, naturalist, author and Adirondack Guide, Ed Kanze, will present a slide program titled Splendors of New Zealand.

This pictorial tour will celebrate the landscapes, flora, fauna and people of New Zealand, featuring photographs taken by Ed during eleven trips to this South Pacific nation over more than 30 years.

From Cape Reigna in the North to Stewart Island in the South, and from Cape Kidnappers on the North Island’s East coast to Fox Glacier on the South Island’s West coast, Ed will give a brief introduction to the human history of the place the original Polynesian settlers, the Maori, called Aotearoa, “the land of the long white cloud.” Ed will also talk about his New Zealand friend Peter Miller, who retired after a career as a merchant seaman and spent the rest of his life transforming a wild piece of land into a nature preserve still owned by his daughters and protected under a covenant by the Queen Elizabeth Trust.

The Road to Retirement Series features programs related to discovering the path others have taken to retirement, serves to further educate and engage communities and teaches about the opportunities, services and resources that can help people retire successfully and happily.

This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
