Tupper Laker returns home to run restaurant at golf club

TUPPER LAKE — James C. Ellis will take over the restaurant of the Tupper Lake Golf Club on Country Club Road in the town as Burgundy Steakhouse.

Ellis was living in Wisconsin but is moving back to Tupper Lake, where he grew up. He has recently graduated from culinary school and is seeking a five-year lease for the building, town Councilman Michael Dechene said at Thursday’s town board meeting. Ellis is also bringing a cook to assist him in opening the restaurant.

Ellis had asked the board to approve a waiver for the 30 days’ notice on a liquor license in case his lease agreement is approved earlier so he can apply for the liquor license. Littlefield said it was standard procedure, and the board adopted resolutions for both the restaurant and beer cart.

“He is looking to invest time and money in the restaurant,” Dechene said. “I think Jimmy, being from town, he knows what goes on. I believe he knows what the golfers are looking for, as well as the community, as far as meals. I’m hoping he’s going to be the answer to our restaurant problems up there for the next five years.”

James C. Ellis is not to be confused with James T. Ellis, the former middle and high school principal and head of the Franklin County Republican Committee. The two are related.
