Saranac Lake police seek missing man
SARANAC LAKE — Village police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who apparently hasn’t been seen in at least two months.
Craig M. Zeldow, 64, of Saranac Lake, left his apartment on Lake Flower Avenue at the beginning of October, paid rent to his landlord and told him he’d be going out of town for a while, according to police Sgt. James Joyce. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Joyce said police were contacted in late October by Zeldow’s family, who live in Wisconsin and who hadn’t been able to reach him.
“Since then, we’ve been following the paper trail or bread crumbs people leave,” Joyce said. That includes checking Zeldow’s bank and credit cards, which haven’t been used, Joyce explained. Zeldow didn’t have a car, he said.
Zeldow has been described by family members as reclusive, Joyce said.
“He’s not had any contact with any of his family members,” the sergeant said. “That was kind of his nature anyways.”
A friend of Zeldow’s traveled with him to Jamestown Falls in the town of Piercefield over Labor Day weekend in September, where the last known picture of Zeldow was taken. Joyce said state forest rangers returned to that area to search for him after he was reported missing but found no sign of him.
Police said there’s no indication of foul play.
Zeldow was described as 6 feet tall and approximately 170 pounds with close-cropped hair.
Anyone with information about Zeldow is asked to contact the Saranac Lake Police Department at 518-891-4422.
