Jackets sting Bombers’ playoff run
MASSENA — The Lake Placid volleyball team’s season came to an end Tuesday morning, as the Blue Bombers suffered a 3-1 loss to the Madrid-Waddington Yellow Jackets in the NYSPHSAA Class C subregional round.
Playing at Massena High School at 10:30 a.m., the Section X champion Yellow Jackets prevailed by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 17-25 and 25-18.
Ellie Shipman paced the Blue Bombers with 16 assists and 13 digs, to go along with her three points, one ace and one kill. Ireland Cassidy also had a standout performance with 10 digs and 10 points. Cassidy also added two aces, two blocks and one assist.
Brooke Meyer chipped in with eight digs, eight kills, two points, one ace and a block for Lake Placid. Meyer was one of four seniors who wrapped up their varsity volleyball career on Tuesday. The other seniors include Fiona Sullivan, Adiss Livesey-Ferris and Sophie Spanburgh.
Madrid-Waddington will next face the winner of the other subregional match between Section I’s champion North Salem and Section XI’s champions Port Jefferson for a spot in the state final four.
Meanwhile, the Blue Bombers ended their season with a 5-14 overall record, which was capped off by the program’s seventh sectional title in 12 seasons.
