Storm soccer teams fall in semis
PICKETTS CORNERS — The Saranac Lake boys soccer team’s season came to an end on Saturday as the Red Storm suffered a 1-0 loss to the Saranac Central Spartans in the Section VII, Class B semifinal game.
The Spartans’ Theran Ducatte broke through with the game-winner late in the second half on a pass from Eric Glover to send his team to the championship game.
Saranac Central finished with a 24-7 advantage in shots, as the Red Storm packed the box on defense and made life difficult for the Spartans. Justin Lushia recorded 16 saves for Saranac Lake, while Saranac Central’s goalie, Damian Lannon, had five stops.
The Red Storm ended their season with an 8-8-1 record overall. Meanwhile, Saranac Central will take on the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in the sectional championship on Thursday.

The Saranac Lake girls soccer team fell 5-1 on Friday to the Saranac Central Spartans, ending their season in the semifinal round as well.
The Spartans’ Eve Liberty netted three goals, while Lily Brown and Kendra Mulverhill also scored. Alyse Liberty, Izzy Bergevin and Julia Ryan each added assists in the win.
Tyler Burth scored the lone goal for the Red Storm, which ended their season with a 3-10-2 overall record. Ellie Willett assisted on Burth’s goal.
Mulverhill opened up the scoring off a pass from Alyse Liberty in the opening half, before Burth evened the game a few minutes later.
However, after the intermission, Eve Liberty scored on a penalty kick before netting two more goals to secure the victory. Brown also found the back of the net during the half.
The Spartans finished with a 19-2 advantage in shots. Saranac Lake’s Emma Akey recorded 14 saves, while Addison Castine had one stop for Saranac Central.
Up next, the Spartans will face Northeastern Clinton in the Section VII, Class B championship game at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Beekmantown High School.
