Bombers blast past Boquet Valley

LAKE PLACID — Ella Moodey scored on a direct kick in the opening half on the road Tuesday to lift the Lake Placid girls soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Boquet Valley Griffins.

The Blue Bombers, who improved to 5-4-1 overall, have now won four of their last five games. The non-victory during that contest was a 1-1 tie with Moriah.

“During this run, we have scored 11 goals and conceded only three,” Lake Placid’s head coach Heather Brewer said. “We’ve also had 3 shutouts during this same game span.”

On Tuesday, the two squads finished with 12 shots each, while the Blue Bombers’ goalie Emma Clark recorded six saves in the win. Boquet Valley’s Ella Pulsifer had nine.

We played great team defense all over the field and capitalized on a great scoring chance,” Brewer said. “It’s been exciting to see our team improve over the last few weeks. The last time we played Boquet, they defeated us 3-0. It’s never an easy win on Boquet’s field, so that along with the fact that it was their first loss was a great accomplishment for our team. We have a young team (one senior and three juniors), but a great fighting spirit and willingness to learn.”

Up next, Lake Placid will host the Chazy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. today. The Eagles topped them 1-0 on Sept. 12.

Starting at $3.92/week.
