Bomber girls soccer tops Schroon Lake

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid girls soccer team defeated the previously unbeaten Schroon Lake Wildcats 2-1 on Monday evening at home.

The Blue Bombers connected on a goal in each half to secure the victory. The Wildcats entered Monday’s contest with a perfect 9-0 record overall.

Ella Moodey got the ball rolling for Lake Placid, scoring on an assist from Kendra Levitt around 29 minutes into the contest.

However, Schroon Lake’s Piper Larabee scored around a minute later to even the game at 1-1, before halftime.

After the intermission, Levitt sent a cross pass to the front of the net that deflected off a Wildcats’ player to secure the victory.

“We played good team defense and held a Schroon Lake team that has been scoring five or six goals in most games to just one goal,” Lake Placid’s head coach Heather Brewer said. “We also created a lot of chances offensively between Ella Moodey and Kendra Levitt.”

The Blue Bombers finished with an 11-9 advantage in shots, as the team’s goalie, Emma Clark, had seven saves. The Wildcats’ Sydney Hart had eight.

After kicking off the season with a 1-4 record, the Blue Bombers have won six of their last games, which has included victories over two state-ranked teams. The lone game that they didn’t win was a 1-1 draw with the Moriah Vikings.

“This was another big win for our team coming off of last week defeating an undefeated Boquet and beating a Chazy team with a good record,” Brewer said.

Lake Placid is now 7-4-1 overall. The team will have back-to-back road games this week, starting with the Ticonderoga Sentinels at 6:45 p.m. today, before travelling to Ellenburg Depot to take on the Northern Adirondack Bobcats at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Starting at $3.92/week.
