Red Storm girls race to invite win
Saranac Lake boys place second in team race
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls cross country squad raced to the team title Saturday at the 11th annual South Glens Falls K-Dawg Invitational at the Moreau Recreational Park in Fort Edward.
The Red Storm girls had four runners crack the top 10 in the 126-person race, while scoring 33 team points to earn the title. Broadalbin-Perth finished second with 137 and Schalmont was third with 169.
Meanwhile, Saranac Lake’s boys squad finished in second place in the team standings with 91 points, trailing only AuSable Valley, which had 72. Broadalbin-Perth finished in third with 115.
Nora Daley and Meadow Nashett led the way for the Red Storm girls, crossing the finish line within a few seconds of each other. Daley placed second overall in a time of 19 minutes, 14.1 seconds. Nashett was clocked at 19:14.20, as Peru’s Maddy Welc was the race’s winner in a time of 18:44.10.
Asa Bruno was the next runner across the line for Saranac Lake, racing to a time of 19:55.00 for fifth place. Clementine Guenette finished 10th in 20:01.00 and Cadence Kennedy finished 15th in 20:21.40 to round out the Red Storm’s top five.
Other Saranac Lake runners were Lila Zobel, who placed 21st in 21:01.00, and Lauryn Caldwell, who took 45th in 23:14.20.
The Red Storm boys were led by the duo of Keaton Daley and Emmett VanBuskirk, who placed 11th and 12th, respectively. Daley crossed the finish line in 17:02.00, while VanBuskirk finished in 17:03.60. Ebin Meissner (17:14.50) also had a solid performance for Saranac Lake, placing 16th overall out of 162 boys runners.
Lake George’s Rory Linehan was the overall winner, crossing the finish line in 15:55.50. Seton Catholic’s
Colby Chase (16:03.90) placed second, while AuSable Valley’s Reece Long (16:06.50) was third.
The Red Storm’s top five was rounded out by Rowan Popp (17:57.30) in 29th and Colin Glascock (18:08.90) in 33rd. Saranac Lake also had strong finishes from Benjamin Ziemann (18:35.70) in 43rd and Jonah Seleni (18:48.20) in 50th.
Up next, the Red Storm cross country teams are slated to compete at home — the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center — at 4:30 p.m. today. They’ll compete against Northeastern Clinton and Peru. Lake Placid will also race in this meet.
