US collegiate, U18 hockey teams named

LAKE PLACID — USA Hockey announced the players selected for both the U.S. Collegiate Women’s Select Team and the Under-18 Women’s Select Team on Sunday. Both squads will face Canada in a three-game series on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday here.

Those series games will take place at the Olympic Center’s 1932 Jack Shea Arena and in the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena. Admission is required for those games and can be purchased at tinyurl.com/y7m939mt.

The Collegiate select roster includes seven players who are returning from the 2024 squad last August. Among them are Annelies Bergmann (Troy, Michigan/Cornell University), Grace Dwyer (Wynnewood, Pennsylvania/Cornell University), Cassie Hall (South Lyon, Michigan/University of Wisconsin), Vivian Jungels (Edina, Minnesota/University of Wisconsin), Sloane Matthews (Plymouth, Minnesota/Ohio State University), Sydney Morrow (Darien, Conneticut/University of Minnesota) and Laney Potter (Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania/University of Wisconsin).

The team is comprised of 14 forwards, eight defenders and three goaltenders. Nine different college programs are represented on Team USA, with the University of Minnesota leading the way with seven players. The University of Wisconsin has five players on the roster, while Cornell University has three. Colgate University, Ohio State University and Northeastern University each have two and St. Cloud State University, University of Connecticut and University of Minnesota Duluth all have one athlete on the team as well.

Molly Engstrom (Siren, Wisconsin/University of Maine) will lead Team USA as the head coach of the U.S. Collegiate women’s select team. Chelsea Walkland (Rochester/BK Selects) and Lindsay Berman (North Reading, Massachusetts/Northeastern University) will be the assistant coaches, while Alli Altmann (Eagan, Minnesota/U.S. Women’s National Team) will serve as the goaltending coach.

The U.S. Under-18 women’s select team features nine players from the silver medal-winning 2025 U.S. U18 women’s national squad. They include Kylie Amelkovich (Glen Ellyn, Illinois), Maggie Averill (Wayland, Massachusetts), Jane Daley (Medfield, Massachusetts), Sloane Hartmetz (Phoenixville, Pennsylvania), Maddy Kimbrel (Long Lake, Minnesota), Annabelle Lovell (Hingham, Massachusetts), Christina Scalese (West Boylston, Massachusetts), Morgan Stickney (Manhattan Beach, California) and Chyna Taylor (Louisville, Kentucky).

The roster of 25 is made up of 14 forwards, eight defenders and three goaltenders. Eight states are represented on the team, with nine players from Minnesota, seven from Massachusetts, three from California, two from Illinois, and one from Connecticut, Kentucky, Texas and Pennsylvania.

The head coach of the U.S. U18 select team is Courtney Kennedy (Woburn, Massachusetts/Boston Fleet), with Chris Bailey (Skaneateles/Assabet Valley), Greg May (Burnsville, Minnesota/University of Minnesota) and Shelly Picard (Taunton, Massachusetts/Long Island University) serving as assistant coaches. Mackenzie Bruch (Powder Springs, Georgia/Minnesota State University) will be the goaltending coach.

The U.S. women’s national team, which will compete at the upcoming Milano-Cortina Olympic Winter Games in February 2026, will be announced later this year.
