Barfly Open golf tourney set for Sept. 9
LAKE PLACID — The Barfly Open is set for Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Lake Placid Club Mountain Course.
Now in its 47th year, the two-person scramble begins with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. It benefits the Tri-Lakes Humane Society, which aims to “Save Little Lives” by connecting needy, deserving pets with loving families. The society also ensures that its animals are evaluated, fed, spayed and neutered.
The Barfly Open Golf Tournament typically moves around the various courses in Lake Placid. Last year’s event drew a record field of 62 teams. Nearly $90,000 has been raised for the Humane Society over the past 20-plus years.
“Each year our expectations are exceeded by the generosity of the players and sponsors,” said Marie Wigger Morgan, tournament organizer. “In addition, the private donations in recent years have been very impressive and greatly needed.”
Each participating team must have a combined handicap of at least 20. The registration fee is $90 per person, including golf, cart and a post-tournament awards party at Wiseguys Sports Bar and Grill on School Street in Lake Placid.
All players are asked to pre-register by calling 518-524-6757 or emailing mariemorgan324@gmail.com.
