Whiteface Club hosts unique golf tourney
LAKE PLACID — The Whiteface Club Golf Course held the region’s most unique golf tournament on Saturday afternoon when it hosted the annual One Club Plus Putter Tournament.
A total of 28 players selected the club of their choice, along with their putters, to tackle the course’s front nine in mid-80-degree heat.
Perry Babcock, father of Whiteface Club professional of the same name, chose a seven iron and negotiated the nine holes in an outstanding 3-over par 38 to win the open division against a field of 18 players. Babcock posted the low round of the event. Michael Trunzo was second.
Howard Gordon took top honors in the senior category over runner-up John McMillin.
The women’s open division went to Cherie Mehler over Penny Gray, while Nancy Gordon was the women’s senior winner.
