Lake Placid Brewers drop doubleheader games

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Brewers dropped both of their doubleheader games to the host Lyon Mountain Miners on Sunday. The Brewers suffered an 11-3 loss in the opener before falling 7-5 in the second game.
After three straight scoreless innings in the first game, the Miners recorded four runs in the fourth inning. The Brewers responded in the top of the fifth inning with three runs; however, Lyon Mountain scored seven runs in the bottom half of that inning and in the sixth.
Lake Placid had eight total hits as Jon Caito and Vann Morrelli had two each. Jesse Izzo, Matt Brandes, Ryan Curry and Jack Armstrong each had one hit. Brandes and Sheldon Cassidy pitched.
During the second game, the Miners took a 3-1 advantage after the first inning, before the Brewers reclaimed the lead with four runs in the second.
Lyon Mountain tied the game at 5-5 with two runs in the third, before sealing the victory with one run each in the bottom of both the fifth and sixth innings.
Morrelli and Brandes each had two hits to lead Lake Placid’s seven-hit outing. Armstrong, Gage Perry and Owen Thomsen added one hit each.
Curry, Armstrong and Cassidy split time on the mound. They combined for four strikeouts.
Up next, the Brewers will host a doubleheader against the Eastern Eagles on Sunday. The first game will be at 11 a.m., with the second at 1 p.m.
