High School Roundup: SLP girls lax top Potsdam, 12-5

LAKE PLACID — The Saranac Lake Placid girls lacrosse team defeated the Potsdam Sandstoners 12-5 here on Friday at the North Elba Athletic Fields.
SLP controlled the game from the start to take a 9-0 lead into halftime. Potsdam then connected on four goals in the third quarter to cut the score to 10-4. SLP stiffened on defense in the fourth quarter.
It was an all-around team win for SLP. The team showed improvement clearing the ball from the defensive zone to the offensive end of the field, which had been a struggle in the past two games, according to its coaching staff. SLP again controlled the draw circle, winning 14 of 21 face-offs.
SLP’s Emma Clark and Juliana Tremblay led all scorers with four goals each. Lizzie Harvey had a hat trick, while Tyler Burth scored one. Clark, Harvey, Tremblay, Kelsi Burth, Wren Crist and Katy Hoffnagle each had one assist.
SLP’s Maddie Clark had two saves in the first half while Sophie Czadzeck recorded four saves after intermission as the two goalies split time in the net.
SLP, which improved to 4-3 overall, is slated to host Plattsburgh at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Lake Placid 3.5, Saranac Lake 2.5

The Lake Placid golf team narrowly defeated Saranac Lake by a score of 3.5-2.5 at the Saranac Lake Golf Club on Friday.
Lake Placid secured points from Seb Cecunjanin, Torrin Fadden and Connor Coryea. Cecunjanin and Fadden each carded 40s en route to their wins.
Cecunjanin edged out Saranac Lake’s Ryan McGinnis Theis, who shot a 41, in the No. 1 spot, while Fadden beat Noah Hastings in the No. 3 match 40-42. Connor Coryea rounded out the Blue Bombers’ victories with a 54 in the No. 6 match to top Brice Heery, who shot a 59.
Lake Placid’s Oren Preston and the Red Storm’s Cooper Patnode tied at 49 in the No. 5 match.
Saranac Lake’s Carson St. Louis turned in the best round of the day with a 39 in the No. 4 match to beat the Blue Bombers’ Braeden Foley, who shot a 47. The Red Storm picked up its other victory in the No. 2 match with Jonah Peckham shooting a 45, to beat Carver Bell’s 46.
Up next, Lake Placid will travel to Moriah for a contest today against the Vikings at 3:30p.m. The Saranac Lake golf team was slated to host Peru on Monday, before heading to the Harmony Golf Course in Port Kent on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. to take on the AuSable Valley Patriots.
