High School Roundup: Bombers baseball, SLP girls lax win

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid baseball team defeated the Schroon Lake Wildcats 9-6 at home on Thursday.

The Blue Bombers’ Jarrett Mihill struck out three batters in five innings, while Vann Morrelli entered in relief and had two strikeouts in the final two innings. The duo allowed just three hits in the contest.

Hyler Isham and Owen Lawrence had two hits each in Lake Placid’s 10-hit performance. Lawrence and Mihill each had doubles.

The Blue Bombers jumped out to an 8-2 lead through four innings, before the Wildcats added four runs in the top of the fifth inning. However, Lake Placid held Schroon Lake without a run in the final two innings to seal the victory.

The Wildcats’ Lucas LaPerle recorded two strikeouts in five innings before teammate Julian Porcaro entered in relief in the final inning.

The Blue Bombers, which improved to 6-2 overall, will host the Boquet Valley Griffins at 4:30 p.m. today.

GIRLS LACROSSE

SLP 21, Malone 4

The Saranac Lake Placid girls lacrosse team defeated the Franklin Academy (Malone) Huskies 21-4 at home on Friday.

Despite cold and rainy conditions, SLP looked sharp and jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first quarter. The team continued the fast pace in the second quarter, taking a 15-3 lead into halftime. SLP then scored six more after the intermission to earn the victory.

Seven different players scored for SLP, as Juliana Tremblay led the way with seven goals. Emma Clark had five goals and Lizzie Harvey scored three, while twins Kelsi and Tyler Burth netted two each. Wren Crist and Maddy Blinn also scored for SLP, which improved to 6-3 overall.

Clark added four assists, while Harvey had three and Tyler Burth had two. Blinn, Tremblay, Kelsi Burth and Katy Hoffnagle each added one assist.

Up next, the team will host the undefeated Canton Golden Bears at 6 p.m. today.
