Paul Smith’s snowshoe team races in Ontario

PAUL SMITHS — Paul Smith’s College’s Eliot Soderholm won the 10-kilometer men’s Hammond Hill Snow Squall Snowshoe race held at the Hammond Hill Resort in Ontario.

Soderholm won the race with a time of 40 minutes, 57 seconds. Bernie Hogan placed second in 47:49, followed by the women’s winner, Claudine Soucie in 47:59. Soucie, of Quebec is among the top three Canadian women’s ultrarunners. Hogan remained undefeated on snowshoes this season in Canada until Saturday.

Paul Smith’s College runners Wes Burkit placed fourth for the men in 52:48, with teammate Banyan Love placing fifth a mere one second behind.

Nathalie Ross placed fifth for the women in the 10K with a time of 1:25:19.

Ellen Haas was the women’s winner in the 5K, with a time of 31:46, and placed second overall. PSC’s Olivia Bobbie placed fourth in 37:26 followed by Chloe Freund in fifth in 37:35.

PSC’s Zack Viertel placed second for the men in the 5K with a time of 32:05, followed by teammate Aidan Minihan in 32:10 to place third. Riley Shone placed fourth in 33:11, and fellow Smitty Cazimir Couble placed fifth in 33:42.

The Paul Smith’s College Snowshoe Team will be wrapping up the winter competition season next weekend in the 5K at Garnet Hill Lodge in North River on Saturday, March 1.
