Storm boys hoops top Patriots, SLP boys hockey fall

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys basketball team beat AuSable Valley Patriots 68-42 at home on Thursday.

The Red Storm’s Mik Denkenberger led all scorers with 19 points. Teammates Cedar Crist and Zack McCarthy each added 12 points.

Aiden Blaise paced the Patriots with 13 points, while Hayden Bombard and Alex Egglefield chipped in with seven points each.

The Red Storm, which improved their record to 7-3 overall — and 4-2 in league play, will return to league play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against the Ticonderoga Sentinels.

Saranac 7, SLP 3

The Saranac Lake Placid boys hockey team suffered a 7-3 loss to the Saranac Central Spartans on Thursday at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center in Plattsburgh.

Ayden McCormick scored a hat trick for SLP, while Ryan Bartholomew added two assists. Teammates Carson St. Louis and Evan Harvey chipped in with one assist each.

On the other side, Saranac Central’s Ryan Campbell scored two goals and had one assist. Ashtyn Catlin had two goals, while Gabe Moore Nolan Miner and Chase Carpenter each scored one goal.

The Spartans’ Brody Macomber had three assists and Adrian Barnes had two. Landon Giroux, Tom Sorensen and Jackson Coryer each added one assist.

Moore connect on a goal at 3:08 into the first period, before McCormick netted the equalizer a few seconds later to make the score 1-1.

In the second period, Saranac Central connected on three straight goals to push the score to 4-1, before McCormick netted a power play goal — set up by St. Louis — at 15:21 in the period.

The Spartans offense remained hot in the final period, scoring on three consecutive goals. McCormick buried the final goal of the game on assists from Bartholomew and Harvey.

Cassidy Goodman recorded 35 saves for SLP, while the Spartans’ Shawn McLane had 13 stops. SLP, which fell to 4-4 overall, was out shot 42-16.

Up next, SLP will venture back up north to the Ameri-Can North Sports Center to take on the Plattsburgh Hornets at 2 p.m. today. Following that contest, the team will host the Beekmantown Eagles in Lake Placid on Thursday. Game time is yet to be determined.
