SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys basketball team secured its second straight victory on Wednesday, topping the Ticonderoga Sentinels 60-33 on their home court.

Cedar Crist scored a game-high 18 points for Saranac Lake, while Mik Denkenberger had 14 and Gunner Harrison added 11 as the team improved to 8-3 overall, marking its best start to 11-game start since the 2006-07 season.

“It was a complete team effort,” Saranac Lake head coach Daryl Crist said. “We’ve had some boys miss some time with being sick, but they played hard. Played together and played great defense.”

The Red Storm’s Zack McCarthy finished with seven points and Sam Clark had four. Dillon Wilson, Connor Gillis and Noah Hastings had two points each for Saranac Lake, which narrowly led 11-7 after the opening quarter.

However a 15-2 Red Storm run in the second quarter, which was strung together by a strong defensive effort, gave the team a big advantage at halftime, and gave them control the rest of the way.

“We’re really trying to focus on starting and playing all 32 minutes,” Crist said. “With a focus on playing great team defense and it showed. We gave up nine points in the first half.”

After the intermission, Saranac Lake outscored its opponents 34-24 in the final two quarters as eight different players recorded a basket during that stretch.

Ian Lender and Jordan Brown led the Sentinels with seven points each, Brady Mydlarz, Jackson Dorsett and Brady Kennedy each had five. Ticonderoga dropped to 3-8 overall.

Saranac Lake has won four of its last five, with three of those victories coming at home. Two of the squads next three contests will be at home.

“We’re trying to take advantage,” Crist said. “Every game is a tough one in our league and we’re just trying to work and stack up wins.”

Up next, the Red Storm will host the Plattsburgh Hornets at 7 p.m. today. The team will honor the 1993-94 Saranac Lake boys basketball team, which finished with a school record of 23-3 overall and advanced to the Class C state semifinal.
