Red Storm spikers fall to Eagles

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake volleyball team’s season came to an end on Monday evening when the team fell to the Beekmantown Eagles on the road. The Eagles won by scores of 25-20, 25-9 and 25-19.

The Red Storm’s Alice LaDue had a standout performance with 12 digs, eight points, four assists, one ace and one kill. Sophie Czadzeck added five points and three aces, while Emily Gay recorded six digs, three points and one ace.

Lexie Donaldson led the charge defensively with 24 digs. Teammates Czadzeck and Abby Isabella each chipped in with nine digs.

Prior to Monday’s playoff match, the Red Storm had won six consecutive sectional banners in Class C. However, the team moved up to Class B this season.

The team finishes the season with an overall record of 11-6 — the sixth time since 2018 that the school’s volleyball team has won 11 or more games in a season. The Red Storm’s six losses were against Beekmantown three times, Plattsburgh twice and Saranac Central once.

With the win, the Eagles will take on the Plattsburgh Hornets in the Section VII, Class B championship game at 7 p.m. on Friday at AuSable Valley.
