Storm runners sweep home meet
SARANAC LAKE — Racing for the final time at home this season, the Saranac Lake boys and girls cross country teams each recorded a sweep on Tuesday at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center.
With Jake Kollmer leading the way, the Red Storm boys beat the Plattsburgh Hornets 24-34, and the AuSable Valley Patriots 23-34.
On the girls side, the top three runners were all from Saranac Lake, helping the squad secure an 18-42 victory over the Hornets and a 17-46 win over the Patriots.
Kollmer was the first to cross the finish line in the boys race, clocking a finish time of 16 minutes, 36 seconds. He was followed by Plattsburgh runners Connor Duda (17:00) in second and Jonathan Frankes (17:15) in third. Red Storm teammate Keaton Daley (17:37) finished fifth.
Saranac Lake runners Ebin Meisner (18:00) and Alex Evans (18:27) finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Liam Fletcher (18:35) rounded out the scoring for the Red Storm with an 11th place finish.
The Red Storm’s Nora Daley won the girls race in 20:59, edging out teammates Cadence Kennedy (21:13) and Asa Bruno (21:26), who placed second and third, respectively.
The Saranac Lake girls also had strong finishes from Eloise Zobel (22:28) in sixth, Lizzie Harvey (22:42) in eighth and Lila Zobel (23:05) in 10th.
Saranac Lake’s boys finish the regular season with a 16-4 record, while the girls are now 15-5. The Red Storm cross country teams will compete in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Championships at noon on Saturday at Northeastern Clinton High School in Champlain. Following that race, the Section VII championships will be held at the Cobble Hill Golf Course in Elizabethtown on Friday, Nov. 8. That time is to be determined.
