Storm boys, Bomber girls race to sweep in E’town

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys and the Lake Placid girls cross country teams continued their strong seasons as they both recorded sweep during Tuesday’s meet.

Racing at the Cobble Hill Golf Course in Elizabethtown, the Red Storm boys defeated Moriah/Boquet Valley 15-49, Ticonderoga 18-41 and Lake Placid 23-35. The Blue Bombers earned a 17-46 victory over Moriah/Boquet Valley and a 25-30 win against the Sentinels.

On the girls side, the first four runners were all from Lake Placid, helping the Blue Bombers beat Moriah/Boquet Valley 15-49, Ticonderoga 15-46 and Saranac Lake 17-38. Meanwhile, the Red Storm girls defeated Moriah/Boquet Valley and Ticonderoga by indentical 15-50 scores.

Saranac Lake’s Jake Kollmer crossed the finish line first in the boys race, recording a time of 17 minutes and 56 seconds. Kollmer was followed by Lake Placid’s Aidan Fay (17:57) and Colin Francis (18:29) in second and third, respectively.

Along with Kollmer, five Red Storm runners finished inside the top 10 of Tuesday’s race, with Keaton Daley (18:35) placing fourth, Emmett VanBuskirk (18:48) in sixth; Liam Fletcher (19:05) in seventh; Alex Evans (19:10); in eighth; and Ebin Meissner (19:19) in 10th.

The Blue Bombers also had strong finishes from Graham Scull (19:43) in 12th and Connor Mannion (19:52) in 14th.

Lake Placid’s Leila Fey was the top finisher in the girls race, finishing in 21:20. Just behind her were teammates Kai McKinnon (21:36) in second, Maya Garrison (21:39) in third and Norah Francis (22:14) in fourth. Holly Erenstone (24:04) rounded out the scoring for the team with a seventh-place finish.

Cadence Kennedy (22:25) was the first Saranac Lake finisher, placing fifth. The Red Storm’s top five was rounded out by Asa Bruno (23:28) in sixth; Eloise Zobel (24:05) in eighth; Lizzie Harvey (24:05) in ninth; and Gwen Haney (24:08) in 10th.

Following the meet, Saranac Lake boys are 11-2 overall, while the Blue Bomber boys are 7-6. Lake Placid’s girls, are 12-1 and the Red Storm girls are 9-4.

The Saranac Lake cross country teams will return home at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for a meet against Seton Catholic and Beekmantown. The Blue Bomber teams are scheduled to compete at the Plattsburgh State Field House at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday against Northeastern Clinton and Plattsburgh.
