Jake Kollmer wins race for Storm
SARANAC LAKE — With the season winding down, Saranac Lake’s Jake Kollmer raced to another victory Tuesday, as the Red Storm boys cross country team secured two dual meet wins while dropping one to the Saranac Central Spartans in Champlain.
Saranac Lake’s girls squad also picked two a pair of wins over the Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the Peru Nighthawks but fell to the Spartans.
Kollmer, a senior, ran past the field to finish in 16 minutes, 43 seconds. Not far behind was Peru’s Michael Welc (16:46) in second and Saranac Central’s Sean Dormann (16:49) in third.
The Spartan boys had four runners finish inside the top 10 to edge out the Red Storm 26-29. Saranac Lake topped Peru 24-33 and Northeastern Clinton 15-47.
Ebin Meissner (17:58.98) had a solid race for the Red Storm placing fifth, while Keaton Daley (18:19) also cracked the top 10 in seventh. Saranac Lake’s scorers were rounded out by Alex Evans (19:02) in 11th and Emmett VanBuskirk (19:11) in 12th.
On the girls side, Saranac Central had three runners inside the top four to defeat the Red Storm 23-32. Saranac Lake’s girls were able to secure a 23-34 victory over the Nighthawks and a 15-46 win over the Cougars.
The Red Storm’s top finisher was Nora Daley in 21:47, placing fifth overall. Daley was followed by teammates Cadence Kennedy (22:04) in sixth and Asa Bruno (22:09) in seventh.
The Spartan’s Sienna Boulds (18:59) won the girls race. Peru’s Maddy Welc (19:20) was second and Saranac Central’s Lauren Denial (21:10) was third.
Saranac Lake’s top five was rounded out by Eloise Zobel (22:36) in 10th and Lizzie Harvey (23:05) in 12th.
The Red Storm cross country teams will close out the regular season at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center against the AuSable Valley Patriots and the Plattsburgh Hornets.
Following that, the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Championships will take place at Northeastern Clinton High School at noon on Saturday, Nov. 2, and the Section VII championships will be held at the Cobble Hill Golf Course in Elizabethtown on Friday, Nov. 8. That time is to be determined.
