High School Roundup: Bomber girls soccer advance to semis
LAKE PLACID — For the first time since 2019, the Lake Placid girls soccer team is advancing in playoffs. The Blue Bombers defeated the Willsboro Wolves 3-0 at home in the Section VII, Class D quarterfinal round.
Lake Placid’s Anisa Cecunjanin scored one goal and added an assist to lead the team. Kendra Levitt, the team’s leading goal scorer, and Eliza Fitzsimmons also chipped in with a goal. Ella Moodey had two assists in the win.
The Blue Bombers outshot Willsboro 10-3.
“Both teams played hard the entire game during cold and windy conditions,” Lake Placid’s head coach Heather Brewer said in a statement. “The Willsboro defense made it very difficult for us to get off good shots, but we were able to break through at times due to the strong play of Anisa Cecunjanin in the midfield. We did a good job possessing the ball in the second half.”
Cecunjanin got the the ball rolling for the Blue Bombers when she buried Moodey’s pass at 24:05 in the first half.
After the intermission, Fitzsimmons added her goal — also on an assist from Moodey — at 14:25 to give her team a 2-0 lead. Levitt then connected on her 11th goal this season on a pass from Cecunjanin.
Peyton Leerkes had six saves in net for the Wolves, while Lake Placid’s Emma Clark stopped three en route to the shutout.
Following that contest, the Blue Bombers will take on Boquet Valley at 3 p.m. today at Camp Dudley in Westport. The winner will advance to the sectional championship game.
