First fall 3P held in Saranac Lake

SARANAC LAKE — Sixteen racers pedaled their bikes, ran up a mountain and paddled across Floodwood Pond in the first-ever fall Backcountry 3P held Saturday on the outskirts of the village.
The race combined biking, hiking and canoeing/kayaking into one big event. The competition started and ended along the Saranac Inn Golf Course.
“It was a picture-perfect autumn Adirondack day,” Race director Scott McKim said. “We’re already looking forward to next year and to our annual winter 3P race at Mt. Pisgah on March 1.”
Bikers raced along Floodwood Road to the trailhead for Floodwood Mountain, where they quickly conquered the 1-mile hike to the peak. Then they rode to the Floodwood Outpost where they paddled from Floodwood Pond to Rollins Pond, and back again. Finally, racers pedaled their bikes back to the finish line.
