Boquet tops Red Storm in girls soccer
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss Wednesday to the Boquet Valley Griffins at Camp Dudley in Westport.
Despite out shooting its opponents 6-4, the Red Storm struggled to find the back of the net and allowed three goals in the opening half.
“Coming off the Moriah loss where we did just about everything well, we talked about no let downs headed into the next game,” Saranac Lake head coach Jason Wamsganz said. “We were flat, and it was one of those games where we couldn’t put things together. Every time we did something well and I thought, ‘Okay, here we go,’ we would self-destruct. It was very uncharacteristic of us, starting with me.”
Boquet Valley’s Claire Reynolds recorded a hat trick, while Mar Carmona Guarido scored the Red Storm’s lone goal on an assist from Stephanie Kilbourne-Hill.
“They scored all of their goals on direct kicks and one on a corner kick,” Wamsganz said. “(It’s) just not the way we do things. It was just one of those days.”
The Griffins’ goalie Ella Pulsifer had four saves, while Saranac Lake’s Emma Akey turned away one.
The loss marked the third straight for the Red Storm, which fell to 6-5-1 overall.
“We are still putting together a nice season, but we have dropped (some contests) in the past few games that I am not happy about,” Wamsganz said. “We have to bring things together and finish this strong. We owe it to each other as a team.”
The team hosted Chazy on Friday and is slated to take on Lake Placid at 4 p.m. on the road Monday.
