Red Storm girls shut out Seton Catholic soccer
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls soccer team defeated the Seton Catholic Knights 4-0 on Friday at Schroeter’s Field.
The Red Storm dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Knights 27-6. The team improved to 2-1 with the victory.
Saranac Lake’s Tyler Burth scored two goals and had one assist. Brisa Brunette and Zuleyka Oliveras also scored. Anika Wamsganz, Mar Carmona Guarido and Ellie Willett each had one assist.
“We definitely got off to a good start, controlled possession and distributed the ball really well,” Red Storm head coach Jason Wamsganz said. “Defensively, we were aggressive going to the ball and playing the forward. We held our shape and balanced out well. Seton did some nice things and really played hard to the end. Credit to their girls and coach.”
Saranac Lake’s Emma Akey had one save in net, while teammate Brylee Carter had in relief. Seton’s goalkeeper turned away 16.
“We still have to clean some things up and understand we are a team who can play from behind. We’re athletic and fast. We can’t get down when we fall behind,” Wamsganz said. “Finding feet and keeping passes on the turf with the correct amount of touch are some things we are going to focus on. Coach Kelly Burth and I stressed the importance of possession and movement of the ball making the defense have to play out of position.”
The Red Storm will host the Ticonderoga Sentinels at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, before taking on the Moriah Vikings on the road at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
