Red Storm, Bombers spikers earn wins
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls volleyball team kicked off the season with a bang, topping the Peru Nighthawks — a perennial Section VII powerhouse — 3-2 on the road Tuesday. The Red Storm won by scores of 25-23, 24-26, 25-16, 18-25 and 15-7
The Red Storm’s Alice LaDue, a senior, had 12 assists, eight points, three kills and one ace. Senior Emily Gay came through with nine points, six aces, five kills, three digs and one assist, while Rori Chenaille-Schenk, a sophomore, had nine points, five digs and four aces.
Saranac Lake’s Lexie Donaldson, a sophomore, led the way defensivley with a team-high 12 digs. Donaldson also chipped in with four points, three kills and one ace. Gracen Foster, a junior, was solid infront of the net, recording three blocks.
With the win, the Red Storm improves to 1-0 on the season. The team will host the AuSable Valley Patriots on the Monday at 6 p.m.

Lake Placid 3, Northern Adirondack 2

The Lake Placid volleyball team defeated the Northern Adirondack Bobcats 3-2 at home Tuesday, by scores of 18-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17 and 15-13.
Senior Norah Galvin paced the Blue Bombers with 18 assists, 12 points, 12 digs, six kills four aces and one block. Fellow senior Kelsey McKillip was the team’s leading point-earner with 15. McKillip also had seven digs, five aces and two kills.
Junior Brooke Meyer was solid in front of the net, recording a team-high 12 kills. Ireland Cassidy, a freshman, had 13 points, five aces, five digs, four kills and one block.
Lake Placid, which now sits at 1-0, was slated to take on the Beekmantown Eagles on Wednesday. Following that match, the team will host the Peru Nighthawks at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19.
