Bomber girls dominate race, boys split
LAKE PLACID — Racing at home for the first time this season, the Lake Placid cross country teams put together a solid performance on Tuesday on a different course than usual at Mount Van Hoevenberg.
The Blue Bomber girls continued their winning ways, topping the Plattsburgh Hornets 18-39 and beating the Northeastern Clinton Cougars 15-50. The Cougars’ girls team didn’t have enough runners to compete as a team.
Lake Placid’s boys squad, which was led by Aidan Fay and Colin Francis, beat Northeastern Clinton 17-40 but fell in tight race to Plattsburgh 26-33.
Fay won the boys race in 17 minutes, 44 seconds, followed by Francis (18:31) in second. The top five was rounded out by Plattsburgh’s Jonathon Frakes (18:41) in third, Connor Duda (18:42) in fourth and Jasper Carter-Kelly (20:00) in fifth.
The Blue Bomber boys were rounded out by Connor Mannion (20:14) in seventh; Graham Scull (21:19) in 12th; Jesse Carlson (22:11) in 13th; Nick O’Brien (25:12) in 19th, Robert Bowen (26:22) in 20th; Jim Guglielmi (26:28) in 21st and Calvin Branchaud (29:34) in 23rd.
Lake Placid’s girls team placed five runners inside the top six to sweep the meet, with seventh-grader Leila Fey winning the race in 21:17. Fey was followed by teammate Kai McKinnon (22:05) and Plattsburgh’s Lizzy Chase (23:17) in third.
The top six was rounded out by the Blue Bombers’ Norah Francis (23:30), Holly Erenstone (24:11) and Jenna Fay (24:05), respectively. Freshman Rose Wenzler was 11th overall in 31:08. The team was without runner Maya Garrison.
The Lake Placid cross country teams will travel to the Cadyville Recreation Park on Saturday for an invitational meet against the Section VII schools before returning home next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. for a meet against AuSable Valley and Beekmantown. The location of the meet is yet to be determined.
