Aidan Fay earns Section VII invite crown

SARANAC LAKE — Lake Placid’s Aidan Fay placed first overall in the 13th annual Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at the Cadyville Recreation Park. However, the Blue Bomber boys had to settle for ninth place as a team.

Lake Placid’s girls team placed third overall with 67 points in a field of 12 other schools. Norwood-Norfolk finished in first place with 46 points, and Saranac Central was second with 65. Saranac Lake’s girls team was fourth with 114.

The Red Storm boys, who were without some of their top runners — Jake Kollmer and Keaton Daley — placed fourth overall with 143 points. Beekmantown won the boys race with 41 points, Saranac Central was second with 70 and Peru rounded out the podium with 106. Lake Placid’s boys scored 153.

Fay won the individual crown in 16 minutes, 59.50 seconds, while teammate Colin Francis had a solid outing, earning 15th in 18:29.20. Beekmantown’s Nolan Laidman (17:04.57) was second and Saranac Central’s Sean Dormann (17:09.94) was third.

Four of Saranac Lake’s runners placed inside the top 30 of the 100-person race. Ebin Meissner (19:05.8) led the way in 23rd; Emmett VanBuskirk (19:07.30) was 24th; Alex Evans (19:11.06) placed 25th and Liam Fletcher (19:17.29) earned 29th. The Red Storm’s Jonah Seleni (20:54.57) was 50th overall.

The Lake Placid boys were rounded out by Graham Scull (20:00.89) in 39th; Connor Mannion (20:32.72) in 44th; Jesse Carlson (23:10.99) in 73rd; Nicholas O’Brien (23:54.02) in 76th; and Jim Guglielmi (24:20.00) in 80th.

Saranac Central’s Sienna Bould ran away with the girls individual title with a time of 19:31.97. Madison Carista, of Norwood-Norfolk, was second in 19:45.99, while Saranac Central’s Laura Denial was third in 20:03.08.

Leila Fey was Lake Placid’s top finisher, placing sixth in 20:46.87, while teammate Kai McKinnon was seventh in 21:03.01. The Blue Bombers also had some strong finishes from Maya Garrison (22:18.87) in 13th, Norah Francis (23:22.73) in 21st and Holly Erenstone (23:27.80) in 22nd.

Cadence Kennedy paced Saranac Lake with a ninth-place finish in 21:54.2. The Red Storm were rounded out by Clementine Guenette (23:36.54) in 23rd; Lila Zobel (24:38.26) in 27th; Lizzie Harvey (24:48.29) in 28th; Zoe Carpenter (25:24.99) in 32nd; Lauryn Caldwell (25:52.38) in 43rd; and Alysa Joyce (31:03.59) in 67th.

Following the invitational, the Saranac Lake cross country teams will return to Cadyville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a meet against Northeastern Clinton, Peru and Saranac Central. The Lake Placid cross country teams will returning home at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for a meet against AuSable Valley and Beekmantown. The location of the meet is yet to be determined.
