Tupper Lake golf poker scramble set for next week
TUPPER LAKE — The first-ever golf tournament poker scramble at the Tupper Lake Golf Club will take place on Friday, Aug. 16 at 4 p.m.
The tournament will kick off with a shotgun start. While the tournament will see foursomes play together, it will be set up as a two-person scramble that will navigate nine holes of play in a scramble format, allowing golfers of all skill levels to participate.
“You don’t have to be a good golfer to play in this event,” Tupper Lake Rotary Club member and town supervisor Rick Dattola said. “It will be fun mixing some golf with poker! And, it’s all for two great causes!”
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Homeward Bound of the Adirondacks, helping to fund vital programs and services for veterans in the region. These include healing retreats, medical transportation and crisis outreach. The event will also benefit the Tupper Lake Rotary Club.
Along the way, players will collect poker cards at designated holes, competing not only for the best golf score but also for the best poker hand to be played out at the Country Club, once everyone has completed their round of golf. The best hand will share their winnings with Homeward Bound and the Rotary Club.
“We wanted to create an event that combines the love of golf with a fun twist, while also raising awareness and funds for our veterans,” said Valerie Ainsworth, executive director at Homeward Bound of the Adirondacks. “The poker scramble is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy a great day on the course and support a cause that’s close to all of our hearts.”
Participants will have the chance to win a variety of prizes, including awards for the top poker hand, closest to the pin and longest drive. There will be also be other give-aways and a post-tournament cookout.
