Champs crowned at Whiteface Club
LAKE PLACID — The Whiteface Club Golf Course in Lake Placid held its annual J. Peter Martin Club Championship on Saturday with four winners taking their respective age group titles.
Charlie Breuer captured the men’s open division. Howard Gordon collected the senior division trophy. Among the ladies, Cherie Mehler was the open champion and Caroline Roy, who had a hole-in-one earlier this season, took the senior bracket.
With the top individual events now concluded, attention turns to a pair of fundraising scramble tournaments at the Whiteface Club. The first, at noon on Aug. 21, is a four-person event benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern Chapter. A tennis doubles event is set for 8 a.m. on the same day. It’s all part of a full day of activities at the resort that will raise needed funds for the regional chapter.
The second scramble is slated for Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. This is a benefit for the United States Ski Hall of Fame and Museum. The Class of 2024 inductees will be announced in Lake Placid later that day. The annual Ski Hall induction weekend will be held at Whiteface Mountain and Lake Placid March 26 to 29, 2025.
