More than 300 take part in Wilmington whiskey run

More than 300 runners hailing from three countries and 13 states took part in the seventh annual Wilmington Whiteface Whiskey Run this past Saturday.

The event held two races, a 5 and 10-kilometer race. Awards were given to the runners with the best overall times and age-group times in each respective race. Proceeds from the races benefit the Wilmington Historical Society’s building fund.

Denali Garnica of Port Henry was the overall winner of the men’s 5K race, finishing the course in 17 minutes, 12.73 seconds. Brennan Peters (18:03.53) of Peru was second and Matej Horvath (20:03.62) of Presov, Slovakia was third. In the women’s 5K race, Sarah Smith of Lake Pleasant crossed the finish line first in 21:27.61, Carissa Robistow of Owls Head was second in 24:58.89 and Katie Petix of Clifton Park was third in 25:45.40.

The top three overall male finishers in the 10K were Aidan Fay (34:20.78) of Lake Placid in first, Luke Tyrrell (38:02.52) of Saranac in second and Joseph Izzo (38:47.21) of Lake Placid in third.

In the women’s 10K, Jordyn Naylon of Syracuse was the overall winner in 38:18.83, Elizabeth Izzo of Lake Placid was second in 39:51.74 and Stacie Minchoff of Plattsburgh was third in 43:19.22.

Next year’s race is slated for Saturday, June 21, 2025.
