Four local tracksters take on state’s best
Four indoor track and field athletes from Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake school districts competed against the state’s best at the NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island Saturday.
Liam Nobles and Cora Hotchkiss represented the Red Storm, while Cohen Gerstenberger and Luke Robillard competed for the Lumberjacks.
Nobles, who was the lone Tri-Lakes competitor in two events, had the top finish among locals placing sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 44-8.25. Gerstenberger placed 29th with a jump of 36-6.25.
Aiden Bryant, of Midlakes, won the event with a jump of 49-0.5. Beacon’s Damani DeLoatch (46-4) was second and West Babylon’s Khadin Muhammad (46-3) was third.
In the long jump, Nobles placed 14th overall in 21-1. Bryant also won the long jump event with a jump of 23-5.75. McQuaid Jesuit’s Rhoan Kaulder (23-2.75) was second and Archbishop Stepinac’s Samuel Madu (22-9.75) was third.
On the throwing side, Hotchkiss placed 23rd in the girls weight throw event with a toss of 40-2. Hotchkiss was 3-inches shy of the Section VII girls weight throw record.
Gabriella Vizcarrondo of Nanuet won the girls weight throw event with a throw of 52-7.75. Medgar Evers College Prep’s Meagan Ewers was second with a throw of 50-5 and Val Stream North’s Nattaly Lindo was third with 49-7.5.
Robillard placed 24th in the boys shot put event with a 40-11.25 toss. Penfield’s Peter Northrup won the event with a throw of 57-0.5. Walt Whitman’s Xavier Ali was second with 56-5.75 and Chaminade’s Georgios Stergiopoulos was third with 55-11.
