Bobcats biathlon win national title

FORT KENT, Maine — The Paul Smith’s College biathlon team skied and shot their way to an overall title in this past weekend’s inaugural U.S. Biathlon National Collegiate Championships in Fort Kent, Maine.

The team overcame tough competition to claim the top spot on the podium, with its men’s relay team of Aidan Ripp of Cloquet, Minnesota, Diego Schillaci of New Paltz and Brady Miller of Presque Isle, Maine combining for a podium finish in the event.

On the women’s side, Dolcie Tanguay of Fort Kent, Maine took home the top position in the Junior Pursuit. Kaisa Bosek of Alexandria, Minnesota and Tanguay also earned podium finishes in individual events as Paul Smith’s College took the overall team championship.

“What an exciting way to end a historic season for the team winning the first ever U.S. Biathlon Collegiate National Championship,” PSC Biathlon head coach Matthew Dougherty said. “This is an incredible group of athletes and I am so proud of all the hard work the have put in for so many years.”

The Bobcats also had impressive individual performances in the pursuit, 7.5-kilometer sprint races and relay events further solidified the overall title.

“The Nordic program at Paul Smith’s College is one of the best in the country,” PSC athletic director Zack Luzzi said. “Giving these athletes a place to both train and learn was paramount to attracting high-level student athletes. We appreciate the support from the Paul Smith’s College community and couldn’t be more proud of the Nordic program. Congratulations to the biathlon team for winning the 2024 US Biathlon Collegiate National Championship.”
