High School Roundup: Tyler Burth, Owen Keal claim Nordic ski wins

SARANAC LAKE — The Lake Placid and Saranac Lake Nordic ski teams held their first race of the season at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.
On the girls side, the Red Storm’s Tyler Burth led the way with a finish time of 22 minutes, 47 seconds. Lake Placid’s Maya Garrison (23:03) took second and was followed across the line by teammate Holly Erenstone (24:04).
Saranac Lake’s Kaylee Holmes earned fourth place in 24:53 and the Blue Bombers’ Harley Cohen rounded out the top five in 27:24.
The Red Storm’s Owen Keal won the boys race in 19:21. He was followed by three Lake Placid boys, starting with Max Fey (19:40) in second, Aidan Fay (19:54) in third and Colin Francis (20:22) in fourth. Saranac Lake’s Jake Kollmer placed fifth in 21:08.
The two teams, which are the only cross-country ski teams in the section, face each other today at Mount Van Hoevenberg at 4 p.m.

Tupper Lake 91, Parishville-Hopkinton 34

The Tupper Lake boys basketball team dominated from start to finish Tuesday evening on the way to a 91-34 victory over the Parishville-Hopkinton Panthers.
Michael Corneau paced the Lumberjacks with 29 points, including five 3-pointers. Tom Peterson recorded a double-double with 25 points and 11 assists.
Garrett Pelkey added 12 points, eight rebounds and one block for Tupper Lake. Ashton Clark scored nine, Wyatt Godin had eight, Tyler LaPlante added six and John Tower chipped in with two.
The Lumberjacks, which improved to 9-2 overall, were slated for three straight road contests. Its first road game kicked off on Wednesday against Edwards-Knox.
