Red Storm boys soccer blanks Willsboro

SARANAC LAKE — With the Section VII, Class B playoff on the horizon, the Saranac Lake boys soccer team ended a two-game losing skid Monday, topping the Willsboro Warriors 8-0 in the Red Storm’s final regular-season match at home.

Saranac Lake dominated from start to finish and scored three goals in the first half. After intermission, the team netted five more to improve to 6-10 overall.

Senior Will Tromblee paced the Red Storm with a pair of goals while recording two assists. Dillon Wilson and Baylor Karger scored two goals each and Elijah Schenk and Ebin Meisner each netted one in the win. Saranac Lake’s Ryan Bartholomew, Dustin Burke, Nash Carlisto and Ethan Knight chipped in with one assist each.

On a night when the Red Storm outshot the Warriors 52-2, Tromblee opened up the scoring less than two minutes into the contest on a corner kick. Wilson and Karger recorded Saranac Lake’s next two goals after cutting through Willsboro’s defense.

After halftime, the Red Storm scored back-to-back goals from Tromblee, Schenk and Meisner scored tap in goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Wilson scored his second goal of the game after collecting a pass from Bartholomew. In the final seconds, Karger netted the team’s eighth goal after sliding into the net.

Saranac Lake’s goalie Cedar Crist recorded three saves in his second career shutout. Willsboro’s Ashton Hathaway had 20 stops in net.

With the regular season wrapped up, the Red Storm will slated to travel for its playoff match. The team will take on either the Northeastern Clinton Cougars or the Saranac Central Spartans. In its lone match ups against those two squads, Saranac Lake lost to the Cougars 5-1 on Oct. 3 and were defeated by the Spartans 4-0 on Sept. 22.
