LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid boys soccer team suffered an 8-0 loss to the Boquet Valley Griffins on their home field Wednesday afternoon.

The Griffins got off to a hot start, scoring six goals in the first half. The Blue Bombers defense picked up steam after intermission, holding their opponents to just two goals — both of which came with under six minutes left.

Boquet Valley’s Ben Burdo recorded a hat trick and Carson Leibeck netted two goals in the win. The Griffins’ Henry Gibson, Colba Furman and Ezra Wekin each scored one goal.

Lake Placid was outshot 22-5, but found some scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

With around 10 minutes left, Lake Placid’s Ayden McCormick, a freshman, nearly put his team on the board when he split between two Boquet Valley defenders, before his shot was deflected by Boquet Valley’s Trenton Lyon. The Blue Bombers Caleb Wylie, a sophomore, also had a scoring chance late, but that too, was stopped.
