Team USA topped Team Canada 4-1 on Wednesday, before winning by identical 4-3 scores on Thursday and Saturday.

Team USA’s Under-18 women’s select team was swept by the Canadians. Team Canada’s U18 squad defeated Team USA by scores of 4-0 on Wednesday, 6-1 on Thursday and 5-2 on Saturday.

Collegiate

USA 4, Canada 3

After giving up a two-goal lead, Team USA’s Collegiate team recorded three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat Canada 4-3 on Saturday.

Trailing 3-1, Kiara Zanon of Fairport brought Team USA within one goal after beating Canada’s netminder Hannah Murphy early in the third period.

A little over five minutes later, Zanon tapped in a rebound in front of the net to even the game at 3-3 with 8:03 left in the third.

Kirsten Simms of Plymouth, Minnesota, tallied the game-winning goal after collecting a saucer pass from Casey O’Brien of Aquinnah, Massachusetts on a two-on-one opportunity. The goal was scored with 5:47 left in the game.

Team USA’s Jojo Chobak picked up the win in net. Chobak stopped 13 shots in two periods of play after relieving Amanda Thiele during the first intermission. Team Canada’s Murphy had 33 saves in the loss.

Canada’s Madeline Palumbo opened the scoring, following a turnover along the boards before dancing along the blue line and firing a high shot into the back of the net in the first period.

Emma Peschel of Edina, Minnesota, answered back to even the game at 1-1 in the closing minutes of the opening frame on a shot from the left dot.

Canada regained the lead after Jade Iginla capitalized on a five-on-three opportunity early in the second period. The Canadians then added another power-play goal when Jocelyn Amos scored from inside the left circle to give her team its third goal of the contest.

Under-18

Canada 5, USA 2

After dropping its previous two games, Team USA’s U18 squad got off to a hot start on Saturday by jumping out to a 2-1 lead.

However, the Canadians turned things around in the late stage, scoring four straight goals en route to a 5-2 win over Team USA.

Kassidy Carmichael of Westford, Massachusetts, scored Team USA’s first goal of the contest three minutes into the opening period. Carmichael scored on a breakaway wrist shot after collecting a pass near the offensive zone and splitting two Canadian defenders.

Team Canada tied the game at 1-1 midway through the first after a defensive breakdown in front of the net resulted in Jessica MacKinnon slipping a shot into the back of the net.

Team USA jumped back on top, 2-1, with 1:53 remaining in the opening frame when Josie St. Martin of Stillwater, Minnesota, rocketed a shot glove side from right inside the left circle.

Trailing in the second period, the Canadians scored its first of four goals when Chloe Primerano scored while shorthanded. Team Canada’s Emma Venusio gave her team the lead on another shorthanded goal in the early stages of the third.

Jessie Pollerin extended Canada’s lead to lead to 4-2 around the halfway point of the third. Caitlin Kraemer closed out the scoring barrage with a powerplay goal in the final minutes.
