SARANAC LAKE — Karlie Goetz threw her first no-hitter of the season, striking out 13 batters in the Saranac Lake softball team’s 18-0 win over the Moriah Vikings on the road Monday night.

Goetz, a senior, allowed just two base runners through the contest with one reaching on an error in the fourth inning and the other from a walk in the seventh. Goetz became the second Saranac Lake student-athlete to throw a no-hitter this season — Brady Roberts threw a no-hitter for the baseball team on April 29.

After scoring just one run through the first three innings, the Red Storm found life offensively when four straight batters were walked to open up the top of the fourth.

With the bases loaded, Goetz hit an RBI single before eventually making her way around the base path to give her team a 6-0 lead.

Goetz was also dominant from the plate, recording two of her team’s eight hits in the win. Saranac Lake batters reached base 27 times through walks or being hit by a pitch in the game.

Leading 6-0, the Red Storm scored two runs during the sixth inning, before closing out the game with 10 runs in the seventh.

With the win, Saranac Lake improved to 9-4 overall. The team currently remains in second place in the Section VII, Class B standings with the playoffs beginning on Friday. If the Red Storm finishes in second place the team will receive a first-round bye week in playoffs.
