SARANAC LAKE — Brady Roberts struck out 10 batters in just five innings while the Saranac Lake varsity baseball team picked up its second win in a row with a 15-4 home victory over the AuSable Valley Patriots on Thursday.

After topping the Patriots 13-5 to open the season on Tuesday, the Red Storm had no trouble repeating its dominating performance, recording nine hits, from eight different batters, while showing solid plate discipline with 12 walks and one hit-by-pitch.

Zyler Strack was the lone Saranac Laker to record more than one hit, recording two singles, one of which was an RBI in the fifth inning. Logan Martelle picked up one hit — a single — but tallied four runs in all four of his at-bats, after earning two walks and getting hit by a pitch.

Despite Saranac Lake’s solid offensive performance, the team was held scoreless in the first inning, but from the second inning on, the Red Storm scored at least one run in each inning to close out the contest.

AuSable Valley had five hits while earning seven walks and a hit-by-pitch.

After giving up a 3-0 lead, the Patriots cut the deficit with two runs in the top of the fourth, only to have Saranac Lake respond with 10 more runs over the course of the next two innings.

Roberts had an outstanding pitching performance in the win, allowing three hits in five innings of work. He was replaced by Adam Lewis, who struck out two batters in two innings.

Losing pitcher Scott LaMountain started the game on the mound for AuSable Valley. He finished with three strikeouts, without giving up a hit through four innings.

With the win, the Red Storm improved to 2-0. The team was slated to finish out the week with back-to-back road games against the Plattsburgh Hornets on Friday and the Lake Placid Blue Bombers at 11 a.m. today.
