Bombers tennis teams split with Chiefs

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid tennis teams split at home on Thursday in close matches against the Saranac Central Chiefs.

The Blue Bombers boys posted a 4-1 victory, while Lake Placid’s girls fell by the same score.

The Lake Placid boys won both doubles contests with its top duo of Harrison and Nash Carliso defeating Asher Girard and Cole Couture in straight sets by scores of 6-0, 6-0.

The second doubles team of Erik Kamperschroer and Parker Scanio found themselves in a closer matchup but were still able to come out on top in straights 6-2, 6-0.

In the singles category, the Blue Bombers boys were victorious in their first two matches.

Lake Placid’s No.1 boys player, Henry Becker, topped Joshua Gaboriault in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, while Lake Placid’s No. 2 singles player, Soren Jacobson, beat Dale Lavarnway in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

In the third boys’ singles match, Saranac Central’s Jaedon Spear narrowly edged out Owen Keal after going into a tiebreaker. Spear topped Keal 6-0, 2-6, 4-6.

On the girls side, Lake Placid’s Julia Crawford, the No. 2 singles player, defeated Madyson Tripp in straight sets 6-4,7-6 with a tiebreaker going 7-4 to decide the second set.

Lake Placid’s No. 1 singles player, Bailey Smith, and No. 3 singles player, Jenn Giroux, fell in their matches. Smith was defeated by Taya Wood 1-6, 0-6, while Giroux lost to Samantha Alex 3-6, 1-6.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Saranac Central’s Calleigh Breyette and Paige Basset defeated Sydney Garrison and Jenna Auldin in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, and the Chiefs’ Rachel Sanchez and Emma O’Hara defeated the No. 2 Lake Placid team of Emma Pickard and Fern Beattie in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

Following the matches, the boys team improved to 2-0, while the girls dropped to 0-2. The squads are slated to return to their home courts against the Northern Adirondack Bobcats at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
