SLP lax season ends in close game

SARANAC LAKE — Alex LaDue riffled in seven goals for the Saranac Lake Placid girls lacrosse team in a must-win playoff game on Saturday. The team ultimately couldn’t put all the pieces together. They saw their season come to an end after suffering a 10-9 loss to the Potsdam Sandstoners on the road in the first round of the Section X playoffs.

On LaDue’s seventh and final goal of her varsity career, she became the first SLP lacrosse player to score 50 goals in a season and the second Saranac Lake High School student to reach the half-century goal mark — Shannon Bromley reached the milestone in 2011.

SLP had previously lost to Potsdam twice during the regular season, with the most recent game ending by a one-goal lead.

Despite playing four games already in the week, SLP put together another close game, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Sandstoners, who will take on Salmon River in the Section X semifinal game.

The Dann sisters, Sydney and Addy, scored a goal each — LaDue assisted on both goals. Lily Fisher recorded three assists and Sabine Deckenberger had one assist for SLP.

SLP’s coaching staff said seniors LaDue and Sydney Dann are going to leave a big hole on the team’s roster next season and they were both a huge part of the team. The team will lose seven seniors who are graduating.

The coaches added that despite the loss, they were proud of the girls for an amazing season.

SLP finishes the season with a record of 5-9.
