Red Storm track teams sweep three team meet

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys and girls track and field teams swept the AuSable Valley Patriots and the Beekmantown Eagles at a tri-team meet at home on Thursday night.

The Red Storm boys defeated AuSable Valley 118-8 and Beekmantown 87-39. The Saranac Lake girls picked up team wins over Patriots 102-10 and the Eagles 72-45.

“The girls did an outstanding job with back-to-back-to-back wins this week,” Saranac Lake girls coach, Jason Wamsganz, said in a statement. “They produced 32 personal records and are beginning to hit their stride. They are feeling more comfortable with the uncomfortable and their willingness to compete has grown.”

Lydia Wamsganz and Zoe Carpenter paced the Red Storm girls with two first-place finishes each. Wasmganz won the long jump and the 800-meter. Carpenter won the 3,000-meter and was a part of the 4×800-meter relay team.

On the boys’ side, Sam Ash and Liam Nobles took first place in three events for Saranac Lake. Nobles won the long jump, triple jump and was a part of the 4×100-meter relay team, while Ash won the 1,600-meter, 800-meter and was part of the 4×800-meter relay team.

Aiden Hesseltine and Mitchell Ellsworth were double winners for the Red Storm. Hesseltine won the 3,200-meter and was a part of the 4×800-meter relay. Ellsworth won both of the throwing competitions.

With the win, the Saranac Lake boys keep their undefeated season intact at 7-0, while the girls move to 5-2 on the season.

The two teams will wrap up the regular season this week, starting with their final meet at home against Ticonderoga today at 4:30 p.m.

“(This) week is going to be a tough week of meets,” Wamsganz said. “I am thrilled where we are at, but we still need to keep growing and concentrating on things that we can control.”
