High School Roundup: Lake Placid tennis teams split against Peru

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid boys and girls tennis teams split in their final home match of the season against the Peru Nighthawks at home on Wednesday.

The Blue Bombers boys recorded a 3-2 victory over their opponent, while the girls struggled in their match, falling 5-0.

Lake Placid’s Sonja Toishi, the number one player on the boys’ team, won her singles match over Sebastien Schaefer 6-1, 6-0 and her teammate, Tristan Spotts, won his singles match over Gavin Mero 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

In the top doubles, Harrison and Nash Carlisto earned the win for the Blue Bombers after the duo defeated Nate St. Louis and Isaac Mitchell 6-0, 6-2.

Jack Hayes and Zach Johnson earned a win for the Nighthawks in the No. 2 doubles match. They defeated Lake Placid’s Parker Scanio and Owen Keal by a 6-3, 6-3 score. Peru’s second win came in the third singles match, with Elijah Lederman edging out Kenny Lawless 6-1, 6-1.

Despite not coming away with a victory, the Blue Bomber girls put together some strong performances.

The top doubles match went into a tiebreaker in the first set, with the Nighthawks’ Elsie Beauharnois and Jenni Davis coming away with a victory over Julia Crawford and Grace Ericson 6-6 (7-5), 6-2.

In the second doubles match, Morgan Bechard and Kaeda Watanabe defeated Lake Placid’s Madison Tyler and Bailey Smith 6-2, 6-2.

The Blue Bombers’ Reagan Levitt was competitive in her match, but ultimately fell to Stephanie Davis 6-2, 6-2.

Lake Placid’s Elsie Fitzsimmons and Melanie Megliore both fell in a well-played singles match. Fitzsimmons was defeated by Jacqueline Mitchell 6-0, 6-3, while Megliore lost to Remi Beauharnois 6-2, 6-0.

Following the match, the Blue Bombers boys move to 4-2 on the season, while the girls fall to 3-3. The two teams were slated to take on Northeastern Clinton on the road Thursday.

GOLF

Lake Placid 5, Plattsburgh 1

LAKE PLACID — Brady Tremblay shot a two-under par 33 to lift the Lake Placid golf team 5-1 over the Plattsburgh Hornets on Wednesday at the Craig Wood Golf Course.

Tremblay finished off the match by recording an eagle, a birdie and a par on the final three holes.

Chris Byrne and Carver Bell tied for the second-lowest score for Lake Placid with a 43. Playing in the number two spot, Byrne topped Porter Hackett 43-60 and Bell won his match over Sam Degrandpre 43-56.

The Blue Bombers’ Alex Wright shot a 49 to win his match over Ben Insley (66). Lake Placid earned its fifth win from Tanner Foley, who defeated Ava O’Brien 51-60.

Plattsburgh’s Steffi Trombley was the lone winner for his team, after Lake Placid’s Seb Cecunjanin was disqualified. Trombley shot a 55.

The Blue Bombers improve to 5-1 overall. The team is scheduled to take on AuSable Valley on the road today at 3:30 p.m.
